I notice that we have started talking about it already, and thank you to Sarah for offering to organise.

So, the big question is, who is in?

I am - Miriam

We'd better start a list then..

Miriam
Sophie
Sarah
Margaret
Jennie
Vonny
Janet
Becky
Mickie
Von

ORDER OF CIRCULATION!

Janet to Becky
Becky to Jennie
Jennie to Sarah
Sarah to Vonny
Vonny to Miriam
Miriam to Margaret
Margaret to Sophie
Sophie to Mickie
Mickie to Von
Von to Janet

Also, when do want to start?  (Bearing in mind that I still haven't got my book 4 and we need time for everyone to post photos, make covers and maybe stop for breath!  As well as find a new stamp).  Should we aim to make and post our own page by end of April?  Or do you want to start earlier/later?

And me please.  And April sounds good.  But .... as in other years I will be away for six weeks in the summer, but I am normally pretty good at turning things around quickly - hope that is ok with everyone.

Sophie - and anyone else who is new to this, the process is -

1. Choose a stamp.  Best not wood-backed because of weight for posting.
2. Choose what size and shape you want your book.  It doesn't really matter as long as it fits in an A5 envelope.  Has usually been around 5"x 5", or 6"x4" but there have been circles too.
3. Prepare a set of blank pages, one for everyone participating and a few spare.  Good idea to do the holes for binding too.  I've just used a normal hole puncher for mine, but most of the others seem to have a more sophisticated way of binding.
4. Use your stamp to create the first page.  You can use other stamps too.
5. Send the stamp and all the pages to the person you are supposed to send on to (I will draw up a list).  The posting on has usually been in the last week of each month.
6. When you get your book back, photograph the pages and put in gallery.

Hope that's everything.  Please everyone add anything I've left out!

It is Very Happy Though I should probably also add that everyone invests so much in these books that it does cause a lot of worry if it seems as if one might have gone astray, so it is important to

- Post the circle book in the last week of the month if you possibly can, ideally leaving a message on the forum for the next person when you have posted it and DEFINITELY letting them know if for some reason you can't post on time that month.

- Ideally let the last person know when it has arrived safely

- Generally follow and participate in the Circle Book part of the forum

With respect to the safe travel of the books, I know some people have also been sending the books by registered post, but then someone has to sign for it - which is great in some ways but I suppose could be inconvenient in others.  A certificate of posting, which is free, does allow you to claim compensation if it gets lost so that is another option suppose.  Does anyone have any more views on this?

I find that signing for it can be a pain as it generally means a trip to the sorting office for me. I always keep the certificate of posting -does anyone have any idea about how much you can claim back? I'm not really convinced that registered post is actually more relibale and it is much more expensive. i think if a book did go missing we would all probably make a page for the person to compensate.

Looks to me as if you need to be able to provide evidence for the value of the item, if you only have a certificate of posting - which could be tricky.  Maximum value in theory is 100 x first class stamps.  I think you are right though Vonny, if it ever happened I imagine everyone would be willing to make another page.  Probably best not to worry too much about it in advance!

I am guilty of sending by registered post as I do worry about it getting lost

I am guilty too Rolling Eyes

However, I do find that once we get into the books, they don't go through my letter box any more and I have to trek down to the sorting office the following Saturday to collect them anyway.

On the subject of proving the value of the book, I think if everyone sends a letter attesting to the value, then that should satisfy the Post Office if needed.

When I am asked the value of the contents I always say it is artwork and, therefore, priceless Laughing
