My cousin is getting married on saturday, in Fiji! Here's the card I made for him & his bride to be. I used kaleidacolor ink colour Carribean Sea, which I thought was rather appropriate, although it'll be the Pacific Ocean I guess!

Thanks! I had fun making it!  Very Happy
vonny

Love the piece Alison. Was also interested to see your views re Halloween which i must say i do feel i agree with. In some areas there is a code that says you can only knock if a lit pumpkin is outside which helps avoid unwanted disturbance. Also i am not an active Christian but was aware that it is a pagan festival - didn't know it was satanist tho! I do think it has got hyped up by shops etc who want to sell the items and make even more money out of us.
Miriam

Last year I had customer complaints about  promoting paganism!
craftytrog

Really? What is it you do Miriam?
Mickie

I hadn't realised that Halloween is a Satanic festival.

Knew it was a Pagan celebration and that the early Christian church hijacked it and it became All Hallows Eve and as such, relatively harmless.

I agree that children being encouraged to dress up as ghoulies and ghosties to trick or treat their neighbours is not British.  It is a tradition that hails from the USA.

However, it has become prevalent over here in recent years and will probably grow and grow encouraged by the God of Commerce.  Perhaps a boycot of stores selling Halloween goods might have some effect?

Who knows anyone with influence at Tesco et al?

Mickie x
craftytrog

That's what I love about my local Waitrose - no ghoulish aisle in October! Laughing
Miriam

I work for Sainsburys, and, while we do sell halloween goods we don't sell a fraction compared to Asda, Tesco and Morrisons!  I worked on Sunday and could not believe how many people were asking for bigger ranges!

I don't celebrate halloween and only ever get 1 child knocking my door each year!
Beckyb

Been and had a look at your blog it is lovely Alison I am sure they will have you back .

I brought a pumpkin this year craved out a face but did it too early and it collapsed in a mess  Laughing even got the night lights

    Becky
craftytrog

Thank you Becky x
Jennie

Alison your piece is absolutely STUNNING!!!  I've looked over and over it and there is so much in it.  I love the colours too.  Well done and I'm sure they will ask you back for more .........

(Halloween is big up here, but just the night of 31st.  On Friday night the town was just teeming with folk dressed up and the children have a great time earlier in the evening.)
vonny

Becky, I love the image of your poor soggy pumpkin  Laughing there is obviuosly a knack to it!

Mickie x
vonny

really like this Alison - what is double distressing tho?
I also like the way you use a music background when taking your photos/scans  Smile
craftytrog

Hi Vonny! Very Happy double distressing is where you emboss card or grunge, ink it all over, then use another colour over the embossing to highlight.
vonny

do you use Staz on for colouring the embossing?
craftytrog

no, just distress inks. the technique was from tim's compendium of curiosities
Jennie

Alison I must have missed  your gallery post - lovely work.  It all sits together so well.  I haven't tried the double embossing yet.  Still working my way through Tim's book!
craftytrog

  Becky x
craftytrog

Thanks Becky! He's sitting on my puter at the mo. I've been playing with him...if you push his body down, he moves along!  Laughing I might attach some thread to his bottom & hang him on my tree at Christmas  Very Happy
Mickie

There's a bit of poetry about the spider at Christmas Alison, it goes something like:

A tree stands grand in the hall
Decorated by the least of all
The lowley spider spun out her webs
To dress the tree in shining threads

Your spider looks really good and will certainly add a little je ne sais quoi to your tree.

Thanks for the link

Mickie x
craftytrog

Thanks Mickie! I love that little poem Very Happy
Miriam

Love the spider Alison.
vonny

looks pretty realistic to me - hope it doesn't bite. I have a dragonfly I made ages ago and it is stuck on my bathroom mirror (with some discreet blu tac)
craftytrog

He only bites strangers Vonny, not my friends! Laughing I think you should post a pic of your dragonfly, we could start a trend!
vonny

would probaly need to take it iff the mirror or I could get a wierd reflection - will just have to remember next time I'm polishing the mirror  Smile
craftytrog

here's a little hanging I made the other day, which I'm really pleased with. The optical lens is a plastic toy I think, I found it when I was doing my paper round! I painted it silver & added part of one of Tim H's images inside it. The heart & wings are painted with Pebeo Fantasy Prisme, I love that paint, it gives wonderful effects.

Beckyb

Love your hanging Alison I haven't tried that paint I collect one sort and someone else bring something else out which is better I can't keep up with it. Laughing where do I stop.

    Becky x
vonny

great work Alison and I love the idea of using found objects (only dog ends where I live tho  Laughing )
Mickie

Love it!  That paint is gorgeous too.  Haven't succumbed yet but I feel it might not be too long before I do.
