hello Butler

Our latest registered user seems to be Butler - welcome. Seems you like cooking - hope you like stamping too and will join in with some of our swaps or challenges.

Jennie

This is a rogue applicant with no genuine craft interest.

I did wonder! I assume people apply and then we choose to register them (well admin do). Can you un register people?
Perhaps it would be a good idea to have an intro piece about us and that the forum is for people who want to be actively involved, even if only a little. I don't know if it's possible to monitor posts but we could have a rule- no posts for three months the you are un registered  Shocked
Jennie

Miriam will be able to explain this better than me, but as I understand it at the moment we don't have any "block" on who joins.  From my work on another forum as moderator, you can get people joining any forum, just because their email address has "bounced" due to a virus.

Miriam and I discussed this before she went away as we had another rogue applicant - it is normally pretty clear! eg. from Eastern Europe, into hanggliding, rock climbing, etc.  We may be able to have new members in a sort of "limbo" until they are registered by Admin.  At the moment Admin can just delete them.  And of course Admin monitor posts and delete those which are not applicable, etc.

Hope that explains it a bit.
Beckyb

Thanks Jennie a forum I belong to I had to apply to join.

I think it is quite usual to have to apply for membership to a forum, especially one with a "special" interest, like ours.  Laughing
Or even to be sponsored by an existing members, although in our case that could be difficult

Just all part of getting it all set up really.  Miriam and her OH have done a great job but there were always going to be a few tweaks needed here and there.
Beckyb

Thats true Jennie I could'nt have done what Miriam and O/H have done they have done a good job.

Miriam

Thanks Jennie for doing a wonderful job while I have been away.  If we are all  in agreement we can set the forum to authorisation required first for new members?
Jennie

Yes I think membership should be authorised and maybe withindrawn if they don't take nay active part in the forum.
perhaps we need a little intfo pice stating that this is a forum for those who want some degree of active participation
Miriam

The authorisation is now set up - hopefully no more dodgy peoplke joining!
Beckyb

Thats good Miriam it makes sense.
