plenty of time yet Jennie  Smile

This is a bit of a mess!  I liked my background - I followed a Trish Latimer tutorial on A Sprinkle of Imagination, using acrylic paints.  Problem was none of my pens wanted to write on it so the border around the photographs was naff and I then used a broad pen to try and cover it up!

Can't tell at all that you had problems. love the page and you did loads of journalling, well done  Very Happy

Great pages everyone!  I have an idea but haven't got started on the page yet.  I see some of you are using bought notebooks - any advice on size and type?  Margaret
Beckyb

It doesn't look a mess to me Jennie in fact it is lovely.

Margaret I made mine it is square I brought some chipboard covers then have just cut card up to fit.I also have Journal I brought at Asda which is A5.

Mickie

Great pages everyone.  Have done mine, but having trouble uploading it.  Will persevere!

Margaret, I am doing a set of Journalling classes and we are using A5 books, which are actually a good size to work on and quite huge compared with the book I am using for this challenge Laughing

What Journalling classes you are doing Mickie.

Margaret I use the Pink Pig Journal Books from Shetland Art Co. (upstairs shop)  They have different sizes, but the one I use is 8" x 8".  They have very good quality smooth watercolour paper in them and so don't leach from page to page.  Mike Finnie put us on to them when we did his watercolour class.  They are not that expensive either.

Hope this helps.
margaret rorie

Thanks for all your advice about journalling books.  I didn't realise that you could get Pink Pigs books here - will go and have a look.  Margaret

My book is tiny like Mickie's which is a challenge.(each page lsightly smaller than ATC) i think I would buy a loose leaf one or one with a spiral as you need to get the pages flat for stamping. also if they are loose you can do some of the messier techniques as well as embossing through cuttlebug etc. I think 8x8 or A5 would both be good sizes -Jennie seems to have room for loads of journalling  Smile
Jennie

I like square books  Laughing
margaret rorie

My book last year was 5 x 5 which I found was too small as the year went on.  Still can't decide on whether to make my own book or buy one.  Decisions!  Decisions!  Margaret
Beckyb

Laughing I am sure you will make one and buy one they will both get used

I am doing the Journalling classes at the Craft Barn with Neil Walker.  Class 2 is on Sunday and at the moment my mum tells me I am going!

In all it is a set of four classes to get you started and if the first one was anything to go by, a wonderfully painty, inky, experience.  The journal is A5 landscape and spiral bound.

8x8 seems huge Jennie but you do fill up the pages well.  Think I might do a square one next time I buy one.  I know it isn't the same thing but I do like to do square cards.

Vonny I cannot tell you what joy it is to have a journal that without any bother opens out flat Laughing   Still, I am sure we will be pleased with ourselves when we have filled our little books.

I am loving doing my books the only problem with books that don't open flat is trying to stamps on the page.

You need Pink Pig Books  Very Happy

I am going to continue with my tiny book with the aim to fill it, using alternate 2 page layouts as this helps prevent ink transferring etc. no idea how many more pages I have got to go but it is filling up nicely now
Mickie

Phew! Just in time to post for January in January.  Hurrah.  You might even call it another achievement Laughing

That is lovely Mickie.  How did you manage to do that in your tiny little book!
Miriam

Lovely!!

this really made me smile Mickie! Amazing that you fitted it in -lovely
margaret rorie

Lovely page, Mickie.  Here is my January challenge.  I decided to cut up a pad of watercolour paper I found in my stash to make a 6x6 book.  I like to use loose pages and then bind them together at the end.

Great idea to make your own book Margaret and really nice pages.
Beckyb

Great pages Mickie and Margaret I not sure I could do a small book I have one here and just keep looking at it  Laughing Margaret I made my book for these challenges at least you can add pages to it if needed.

      Becky x
Jennie

A lovely page Margaret.  yes loose leaf pages work well.  I had a play with some new inks yesterday in mine and it came out rather dark, so I'll have to try and use it for something!
Sarah

Lovely pages everyone
margaret rorie

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments, Margaret.
Sarah

Would love to see your winning photo Margaret.  Are you able to post it here?
margaret rorie

No problem, Sarah.  Here it is - I took it inside the Flower Pavilion at the Chelsea Flower Show.  I blurred the background with my photo editing programme to make the flower stand out a bit better.  Margaret

Love your photo Margaret.

Thank you all for your lovely comments everyone. I stamped the image onto tissue paper, coloured it in with DI Markers and pasted it in using mat medium.

Jennie, this technique gets over the problem of a too dark background.
