Tel;l me about it - the salt sheves were stripped at Sainsbury's!!!
Mickie

There was no salt to be had in Tesco either.  Wink

Am hoping to join in this challenge; it looked quite interesting when I read the magazine Laughing

I have had a quick go and it did'nt come out quite right but will try again  Laughing

I thought this would be a good one - always nice to use a store cupboard ingredient  Laughing
Miriam

definately - I have used the salt technique before but with silk painting.
Jennie

I use salt alot in watercolour painting to create different effects, so I thought I might also give it a go on wet distress inks which is the same sort of thing.

PS  That makes it sound as though I do alot of watercolour painting  Laughing  I'm just good at putting stuff on it when it all goes wrong   Laughing

I made some salt background papers some time ago from a CS article, so am hoping that this salt challenge will go with the backgrounds and then I might get round to using them Laughing

We shall see

I've got all the "ingredients" sitting here on my desk, so hoping to get to have a go this afternoon.  As I don't get my CS until next Tuesday, I've still got a few days left  Laughing
Mickie

Haven't been able to do this one yet - got a bit side tracked Embarassed   However, as I already have the new CS I think I will make it a priority for the weekend as weather is going to keep us indoors!

Just had a go - its BRILLIANT!  Do try it over the weekend Mickie.  I am really impressed with the texture.  The one thing that I don't like about embossing powder is it is too smooth, but this gives it a reallly lovely bumpy texture.  I wil post a pic of my page tomorrow.

However - the salt goes everywhere when you put the heat gun on it  Laughing
vonny

I really am hoping to do this soon but currently working on ATCs and other swaps for Feb.
i am happy to choose a challenge for FEb unless anyone else wishes to. I will get my CS on Tues. I also hear that the sub offer is some CI stamps- so may actually re-subscribe!
Jennie

Here is a pic of my page.  I also made a key as well but I couldn't find a place to realistically fit it onto the page Laughing

I really enjoyed this technique - the best so far I think.  Looking forward to you choosing a new technique Vonny  Very Happy

Have had a go at this. I actually felt that I got a pretty bumpy covering just using one layer of embossing powder, especially with the verdigris (hadn't used this for ages so at least this made me get it out!)

I did the butterfly using white normal EP and had to use 2 layers to get a smooth finish and then added salt. Have put on some ink but think it needs more. Texture is very subtle

Hinges - I used 1 layer of verdigris and I think the salt added further texture - inked over with brushed courdery at edges added to aged look - am thinking about using these on my circle book cover maybe.

Inchies- these were punched from chipboard then covered with gesso. the images were stamped with Staz on. then 2 layers of clear EP used and salt sprinkled around the faces. then fired brick DI rubbed onto the salted areas. Again texture is quite subtle but I think these are my favourites.

hope to let you see them in projects at some point

wow all these look great Vonny!  I love the idea of the picture inchies.  I did find that I needed two coats of white embossing powder before the salt would stick to it.  I also found I needed to use a darker colour of DI - I used peeled paint, but it looks more like shabby shutters.
Mickie

Jennie and Vonny you have produced some lovely work there. Laughing

I'm afraid I ran out of time to do this one but will see if I can do something in the week.

Jennie & Vonny - your work is fab...  Still going to give this a go at some point.
Mickie

At last!  Have completed the January challenge.  I wish I had known about this technique before I bought any DI EP. Wink

Great choice Jennie.  Thank you Laughing

A lovely page Mickie - I love the colours.
Mickie

Thanks Jennie.  The colours are Adirondak dye inks in Stream, Pool and Aqua - the lighter and the darker tones are bluey colours but the mid tone defintately veers into the green. Laughing

Great idea for cogs Becky. mickie some of your salt looks sparkly- or is this something extra?

Here are some ATCs made with the tiles with salt added. the background is the ghost image Jennie gave us the link for.

Great work ladies Smile
Mickie

Great cogs Becky - like your use of pop studs too Laughing

Vonny I didn't use any extras - think the sparkle is just the light reflecting from the white EP.  Love your ATCs Laughing

Jennie

A great idea to use the cogs Becky and they look great.  Love the ATCs Vonny, the backgrounds look super.
