July CS Challenge

Went out and bought some masking fluid and, apart from the fact that it messes up your brushes like the lady says in the article, it is quite useful stuff to use and sooooo easy too. Laughing

As for the different brayer technique - that's another story Laughing

Here is my card - maybe a bigger silhouette stamp would have been better

Here is the other card.  Felt I may have run off too much ink in the previous card so left more on this time which maybe gives a better effect but as I stamped the verse I skidded a bit on the shiny surface Rolling Eyes

and here is my take on the tag.  For comparison purposes I didn't use masking fluid on this.  I just used white crayon as a resist.

Becky I used the masking fluid in a thin layer on the first card and found it was not that easy to rub it off.

On the second card I applied what we might call a "generous" amount which is probably why the dots came out so big.  However, it was much easier to rub off.

WARNING:  when you come to rub the stuff off, make sure you have clean hands Laughing

Mickie - your examples are super!  Very Happy  Here are my attempts - this is the first time I've used masking fluid and liked the effect.  However I had difficulty keeping the masked bit clean when I took off the masking - you do need clean fingers!  I found you could peel this off.  The versamark did not resist as much as in the CS examples - the effect was muted.  I'm not having much success with brayering - I end up with lines.  Is this due to creases in my craft mat? Would welcome advice.  Margaret

These are good Margaret - nice depth of colour on them. Laughing

I too, had problems with lines and I think, for me, it was because I usually flick the brayer in one direction when I am laying down colour (a la Barbara) but in the CS article they advised that the brayering should be done by rolling the brayer backwards and forwards.

It does look like the deeper lines you got on the tag were perhaps due to creases on your craft mat.  I would suggest that you work on a few sheets of copier paper as a pad on top of your craft mat.

I, too, found that Versamark resist wasn't very clear and put it down to the stamp I used being quite slender.

Having said all that, I wonder if the lines don't actually add a certain je ne sais quoi to the finished item?

Hope I have been of some help and keep on brayering. Laughing

Thanks for the advice, Mickie.  I'll certainly try this technique again this time on sheets of paper.  I'm sure brayering does become easier with practice!  Like you I didn't brayer backwards and forwards either.  Margaret

Your work is great Margaret xx

lovely work Maragret. i am halfway through mine as I put on too much masking fluid and it took ages to dry. Do aim to get it finished soon as new CS arrived today!!
vonny

Here is mine. i agree that the resist is quite muted. i have found this before so tend to use clear embossing to get a clearer resist.
Like the masking fluid where you can see the brush strokes.
When I brayered I did the back and forward movement until blended. i also brayered by starting off the card on scrap paper then going onto the card in one movement

Worth the wait for it to dry - this has really come out well.

Thanks for the brayering tip Vonny - starting off the card was a really good idea:lol:
