NEC March

Hi
I have a friend who is trying to persaude me to go to this. do any of you go (it would be an added incentive to meet up) and what do you think of it? how does it compare to Ally Pally or Newbury, both of which i attend?
Miriam

I was going to go last year but didn't make it.  It is supposed to be much quieter than the November show.  At the same time, there are supposed to be less suppliers.  But saying that,  I have not been to the March one.  There is another Crafts for All in Bristol in March.  I don';t know whether I will be demo-ing this year but I will probably go to that because it's literally on my doorstep!
Beckyb

When and where is it Miriam we might try to come to that one.

Have agreed to go to the NEC show on the Friday, 25th. Anyone else going?

Ther do seem to be a lot of shows around in March and April - wish they would spread them around a bit more!
Beckyb

WEnt to this yesterday and I was not impressed. the hobbycrafts part had reltaivley few stalls with rubber stamps altho loads were doing papaercrafts. the stamp ranges avaialbe were very limited as most had Hero Arts and Penny Black (nothing against these but I would rather not see the same stamps). In the end got a CI set (the young girls one that Srah used on her friends ATCs) and a couple fo cute owls and a ptachwork star. Also a couple of stencils and a cut and emboss set for my Cuttlebug which I can't get to work!
In the stitiching part there were very few quilting fabric stalls although those there did have some good value fabric. I did get some backing fabric but there were no unplanned purchases  Smile
Actually came back with unspent money  Shocked so will probably do a bit of internet shopping. I just find that you have to go to a different site for each stamp manufacturer that you want so have to pay lots of P&P.
Anyway won't be going to that show at the NEC again  Sad
Beckyb

Sorry you did'nt enjoy the show Vonny the later one is not bad and to come back with money is a rare thing know what you mean about ordering on line with p&p though.

Shame you didn't enjoy it Vonny.

I have been feleing guilty because I won 2 tickets from Craftstamper, however, have been too exhausted to go.  I have got the Bristol show to look forward to next week Smile

Becky - the shop I am demo-ing for - Craftworks - will be giving 10% discount - Jenny has some lovely goodies for the show!
Jennie

I wonder if the show at Birmingham is the same as Glasgow?  Our Scrapbook group are thinking of doing a trip down to Glasgow next year for the show.  We don't (well I don't) take particular interest in the shows as I know I can't get to any of them, but I'll keep an eye out to see if it is the same show in Glasgow in October.  Such a shame Vonny there was so little on offer.
vonny

to be fair there were lots of other things on offer, just not what I was looking for. I think I have been spoilt with other shows like Artstamps and AllyPally where there is a really good selection of stamps.
I wasn't looking out for scrapbooking at the NEC but I didn't notice any really - mainly noticed all the decoupage stuff that seemed to be everywhere. You should be able to get a list of the companies who are attending to see how many relate to scrapbooking. I would think that there will be a very different range in Glasgow anyway. Also there were lots of lovely yarns in the stitching part that you perhaps would have liked. I think it is always worth giving a show a go to see what you think. They also change every year as different retailers support them.
Mickie

I was going to be impressed that you brought money back with you Vonny but instead I am really sorry the show was not up to much for you.  I do take your point about the P&P it can be horrendous.

Jennie, I understand from a friend, who lives in Nairn, that the Glasgow show is worth going to.  Claritystamps are at that one and as I understand it, they really only do the biggies.

I think that most stamp companies have an events list on their web sites that list the shows they will be attending during the year and other retailers like The Craft Barn and The Glitter Pot, sell a wide range of stamps, so might be less espensive (?) to shop there.  Just a thought. Laughing

Thanks Mickie.  We will keep an eye out as to who is doing this year - we won't be going until 2012.  It has also been suggested that we tie it in with a trip to Ikea  Shocked The chap who does the bus here is apparently used to bringing back huge parcels!

Jennie - I have found the website for the Glasgow craft fair but it is too early for a list of exhibitors.  The website is www.ichf.co.uk/hobbycrafts.
Like you, I don't usually take much interest in craft fairs being so far away but I am keen to go to Glasgow - not sure if the bank balance will cope so will need to start saving!
vonny

Mickie, I think going to a shop would save on P&P but would be unlikely to be cheaper with so many other goodies to tempt you!  Laughing
Mickie

You are right Vonny, you just have to think of all the postage you would be saving, especially as the postal rates will be going up again next month Laughing
