Vonny I used Paper Artsy Grunge Paste through a Tim Holtz mask and it works so wonderfully - I normally use gesso but this stuff is amazing!  I then covered it with the various layers of paint and then did a bit of a dry brush white over the top at the end.  There are some more detailed photos on my blog.

Here's a link to Catherine's products Miriam - I just love them although have only bought one mask and two stamps given they were coming from America. They are all from her own sketches and I can thoroughly recommend her online courses.

Vonny you could use modelling paste instead of grunge paste, it is somewhat thicker than gesso but not as thick as the grunge.

Jennie are you using Treasure Gold too?  Colours are fabulous.  Thank you for posting the link to Catherine Scanlon I have just printed her catalogue for further inspiration Laughing
